SHAWNA GALLAGHER

Shawna Gallagher is a mental health and substance use disorder Specialist for Tulalip Health System
  • Name Shawna Gallagher

Shawna Gallagher, Behavioral Health Director

Dr. Shawna Gallagher has over 15 years of experience working in both Native and non-Native co-occurring (mental health and substance use disorder) outpatient/residential treatment facilities, both as a direct practitioner and as a program director. She is an enrolled member of the Klamath Tribes and was born and raised in Southern Oregon—on the recognized reservation boundaries of the Klamath, Modoc, and Yahooskin Snake Band Indians.

Prior to joining the Tulalip Tribes Behavioral Health team, Shawna worked for the Seattle Indian Health Board and continues to provide them support through contract work. Prior to moving to Washington in 2016, Shawna worked for the Sante Center for Healing in Argyle, TX, as the Director of Outpatient Services (Intensive Outpatient Programs and Transitional Living Programs). However, most of her clinical experience was gained in the Northwest (Oregon and California). Shawna attributes her clinical awareness for culture and diversity to both her upbringing and her time spent in the Bay Area. Shawna has extensive experience in program assessment and development, and establishing trauma-informed clinical settings. In her direct clinical practice, she specializes in trauma-informed care and addictions—and has been successful at weaving indigenous psychology (beliefs, practices, and ceremonies) into Western-based interventions. She has an eclectic approach to treatment working primarily from Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative therapy, and the 12-Step Model.
